Warpgates seemed to add a lot of strategic flexibility last time. I'd be against removing them. Maybe they could be more expensive, though.

 

And I personally liked the totally dark galaxy.

Yeah I dig the full fog of war. Makes for a slow and terse start, and the possibility of being completely isolated for a while (me and sai), but that's cool by me. I can also settle for having the warpgates set to expensive. Because seriously once I picked Tai off and had all of his economy, building warp gates at whim to completely and utterly quash any attack was trivial. Wherever I needed my deathball to be, a couple hundred bucks and it was there in 3 hours. It would have taken all three of you hitting me in different directions to get me out of defensive position. But if you guys don't want to change that at all, suits me.

I'd be okay with making warp gates expensive.

I hate the fog of war just on principle. How is it that a spacefaring civilization can't see nearby stars? And how is it that losing that star makes it invisible again? Do stars move around a lot in this universe? Is there no way to be able to see all stars without seeing who controls them?

I'd like to try a game without dark galaxy just to see how that changes the dynamic. But if everyone else likes it I'm okay with keeping it.

I told Sai to start a game because I am crazy busy. I was originally gonna just buy a open PJ account for just hosting games. I can still do that if y'all want since Sai never started a game.

I set the options for 8 players, that might have been too optimistic.
If some of you guys are still interested, we can always recreate it with less.
Password's "TheJokeIs0ver" (sorry, my mistake) "TheJokes0ver" (that's a zero). Be careful: they don't enforce HTTPS.

Edit:
Oh wow, it's been more than a year since we last planned on doing this.
I just noticed the "Force start" button in the admin panel, so I don't think we'll have to recreate the game if we are less than 8.
I also noticed that since the map is visible before we select our color, and the starting stars are indicated for each color, my very first choice in the game was a bad one.

edit: for force start I believe it sets the empty slots to AI, and they're assholes.

Welp, that's not taking off as fast as I thought it would...
Speaking of which, I set the game so it's turn-based, I hope that's alright.
That should make it less stressful for those of us who have to work.
There's a 24h deadline for the turns, which I felt was fitting for a game in which the players are in different timezones.

Edit:
Uh... I'm not sure 3 players are going to make for an interesting game (I expected around 6 or 8 players).
Let's wait until Saturday then.
I've tested the options in a game against bots (and got rekt, hard). Turn-based works pretty well, but it kind of spam your mailbox.

Edit 2:
Saturday came, still only 3 players. I guess it wasn't the right time then. Too bad.
